"I remember the government project was at least to turn over 10,000 beds in year one. In September we were more than 36,000 beds...we got Kenyans travelling. Now we have seen more business in hotels for Kenyans."
Maina prides himself in being a local tourist, with some of his best destinations in Kenya being Ol Tukai lodge, Lamu, Eldoret, Malindi, Meru, Kitui,
"There are things happening even in Bungoma... there is a place several waterfalls come together. It is an amazing scenic place."
Maina dismissed the notion that touring places around Kenya requires one to have a lot of money.
He said there are affordable houses for tourists provided by KWS, and it is not mandatory for one to book an expensive hotel inside scenic places.
Other than the tourism agency, Maina runs other businesses including selling and marketing products.
"If you want a plane dashboard I can get you. I am a trader and marketer. I talk to brands...market them and advice them. I am not cheap..." he said.
