I have struggled also just like other entrepreneurs because the business environment has not been very friendly to small-scale businesses," Betty Kyallo said.

She remarked that the biggest challenge is that she is in a field that does not deal with basic services.

"People just don't have money to spend especially on luxurious services like micro-blading... what we do at the salon."

However, Betty says she has managed to implement business strategies to stay afloat and at the same time serve her customers.

"The secret is always knowing how to have your come-back. For us we did a few things to make sure our customers are still catered for, like reducing the prices. It makes the customer feel that you are considerate," she said.

The mother of one also explained how she has managed to stay relevant in the media industry.

This, she says, is because of the strong relationships she established during her days as a news anchor.
