Celestine Muthengei, a second-year community development student in Thika, breathed her last on Monday, June 14, 2021, after was allegedly attacked in her hostel room at around 8 pm on Monday. The killer fled and is still at large.

She was pronounced dead at Thika Level 5 Hospital.

The hooded killer seems to have planned his murder with precision. Armed with a burning vendetta, the killer planned to carry out his calculated twisted plot to kill Celestine.

According to numerous witness reports, the young man looked like he belonged, nothing was out of place with him.

Celestine's roommates, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of being attacked by the unknown boyfriend, said he entered their room when they had just had supper.

“He entered the room and calmly asked where Celestine was. He was so polite and no one could suspect that he had an ill motive. We thought he was a classmate and was probably looking for notes,” one of the roommates said.

She continued, "Celestine was seated at the edge of one of the beds near the door charging her phone. She seemed not to recognise the man, as he had a cap and a facemask; she stood and introduced herself as the one he was looking for. The man told her ‘ulidhani sitakupata. Unani-cheat (you thought I wouldn’t find you. You are cheating on me)', drew a knife from his coat pocket and started stabbing her senselessly.”

Another witness told Mpasho.co.ke, "Celestine looked stunned the type of stunned where you did not think someone will find you. There is a chance she knew him or didn't because all through she did not mention a thing, she was just screaming for help."

Adding, "He came with the knife. That guy looked like he was prepared because he did not hold the knife with his bare hands, he wrapped it with synthetic hairs and after he stabbed her he left the knife there. Also nowadays because people wear masks he had a mask and had a hood on, so it will be hard to identify him.

After he stabbed Celestine, he ran out, when he met people on his way out, he told them, people are getting stabbed there, throwing any suspicion off him as he disappeared into the darkness."

Another witness who spoke to Mpasho explained, "At first, when I heard screams I was like 'Ahh, you know how ladies are screaming over anything', but it got worse because people were running to me asking me to call the university to ask for an ambulance. Although it kinda delayed, the manager of the hostel called a taxi and it came and rushed her to hospital.

The cops came 30 minutes later, they were on patrol in a place called Runda where students just chill. Then later other detectives came and took the knife, other samples and pictures of the scene."

Police in Thika are hunting for the hooded man.
