Bank guard found in possession of home-made firearms

A man was arrested Tuesday in Mbita town, Homa Bay County by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers after being found in possession of homemade firearms.

The man identified as Moris Ochieng Obiero who is a security guard at Cooperative Bank Mbita branch was found in possession of homemade firearms by the police.

According to Mbita Sub County DCI Commander Philip Sang, the suspect who is 38 years old was found with a pistol at his work post by the police who escorted him to his house in Milimani estate where another weapon which was being assembled was found.

“The suspect was also suspected to be in possession of bhang but no drugs were found in him,” said Sang.

According to the Commander, the officers seized an arsenal consisting of various parts of a firearm similar to those of an AK 47 assault rifle and an assortment of homemade ammunition made from metals.

A chemical in the form of a powder was also recovered whose samples were taken to the forensic laboratory for further analysis.

The suspect is in custody at Mbita police station awaiting to be arraigned in court as investigations are ongoing to determine the suspect’s motive and whether he was assembling firearms with the help of other accomplices.
