Daniel Moi's son, Gideon Moi held a press conference in the morning and spoke about the family's last moments with the iconic leader.

"Mzee passed on this morning at around 5.20am. He went peacefully. We want to thank Kenyans for your prayers," Gideon Moi said.

Adding,

"I would like to thank the president and his emissaries and every Kenyan. We'll issue a detailed statement on what happened in the last 3 months. Moi could be older than 95; we are celebrating his life."
