The Great Migration, as it is known, is the movement of a million plus wildebeest from Serengeti in Tanzania northwards into the adjoining Maasai Mara Reserve in Kenya.
It is one of the most amazing and captivating examples of wildlife behavior may be seen here. Every year, the Serengeti-Maasai Mara environment is invaded by animals on their annual migration, which is driven by their impulses to seek out greener pastures.
The movement continues through the end of August before slowing down in the middle of September.
Although the number of animals making the long journey varies from year to year, in the past, up to 1.5 million wildebeest, almost a million zebra, and several other animals have done so.
They travel across the crocodile-infested Mara and Talek rivers, where many of them are unable to avoid the enormous Nile crocodiles that are waiting for their victims, making their voyage particularly dangerous.
During a game of safari, one might observe the migration.
