Dr Desree Moraa dies by suicide

Kenyans have expressed their disappointment after a Doctor identified as Dr Desree Morara took her own life.

She was found dead on the balcony of her apartment on Sunday night.

Dr. Ouma Oluga, took to his socials saying Dr Moraa was the only intern in her department.

'A young intern, who after enduring the most inhumane wait to begin her career, gave in to darkness and died by suicide because nothing could no longer work for her," he posted

He also mourned the death of two colleagues who had died.

"The last three days have been nothing but devastatingly sad for the medical fraternity. Two colleagues Dr. Kibata Githeko (Ophthalmologist) and Dr. Fredrick Okinyi (Pathologist) passed on prematurely after gracious battles with cancer. "

Moraa has been described as a brilliant doctor. She worked at Gatundu Level 5 Hospital.

Police who visited the scene said they found her body dangling near a balcony with a rope tied around her neck.

Dr Moraa, 27, stayed alone at the time of the death, officials said.

She stayed on the fourth floor of the apartment where the body was found.

The motive of the incident is yet to be revealed.

@NjoguTheDoc: Internship is depressing. During my internship, I survived suicide attempt and had to take 6 months off clinical practice after completing. It's unfortunate that the carers have no one to care for them.

Faith Odwaro: Very sad indeed I almost quit medicine as an intern working in Gatundu. Medicine is generally tough and the working environment is harsh. Young doctors need mentors but most importantly, doctors need regular debriefing.

Rachel Kamundia: It's makes me feel so sad for the loss of a young lady with a bright future like Moraa.I wish she took rest to rethink and rejuvenate.Pole sana for the family.

@JuliJulieta18: Sad. depression is a time bomb in waiting. Most health care workers need a lot of support in terms of mental health issues. We are faced with a lot of frustrations in our line of work from long working hours due to staff shortage to non payment of salaries. Sincere condolences

@bigga_than_lyf: RIP Doc. Sad story!..one thing i’ve told myself is…i’ll never work for free for any employer!..either way..am not getting paid!..2 months is max!

@eastleighpundit: This is heartbreaking. If you find yourself in such a predicament, just walk away.

@Dr_AustinOmondi: The good die young. The young die hard. Rest easy Dr Moraa.

@kenda_kaala: My heart bleeds for these bright souls who have gone to their maker. May God keep them in perpetual peace.

@BerylOduor: Medics need support systems in each and every hospital. A place where they can seek professional help when things are tough.

@Gooner_Eurychus: Dr. Desree Moraa was my great friend and campus-mate. It is so devastating to lose such a young and vibrant doctor. Desree was one of the coolest people I have interacted with. We have lost a heroine. May she rest in peace. Condolences to the family.

@MariamuRoselyne: Rest in peace Doc you did not have to die under these circumstances your country failed you.
