Musician Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested by federal agents in New York on Monday, following months of civil lawsuits accusing him of sex trafficking, sexual abuse, and rape.

A federal judge has ruled that Combs will remain in custody, denying bail due to charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.

The judge stated that there were no conditions that could ensure Combs would appear in court if released.

Combs faces various allegations, including those from his ex-partner Casandra "Cassie" Ventura, which he denies.

What is Bail?

Bail is a pre-trial restriction imposed on a suspect to ensure they do not impede the judicial process.

It allows temporary release from custody while awaiting trial, with the condition that the accused returns for court proceedings.

Reasons Bail Might Be Denied:

Nature of the Charge: If the charges are serious and the potential punishment is severe, the court may deny bail to prevent the likelihood of the accused fleeing.

Strength of Prosecution Case: If the prosecution’s case is strong and the accused is aware of this, there is a risk they might abscond, leading to bail denial.

Interference with Witnesses: If there is a risk of the accused interfering with witnesses or evidence, bail may be denied.

Repeated Offences: A history of similar offenses can also result in bail being denied.
