Kenyan actress and human rights defender Kaz Lucas has undergone a hysterectomy due to fibroids in her uterus.
Describing herself as a defender of sexuality and consent, Lucas shared the news on her TikTok account.
She explained that her gynecologist discovered two fibroids, leading to the decision to remove her uterus through a laparoscopic procedure.
"Two years ago I was diagnosed with fibroids. My gynecologist found two fibroids in my uterus and now am having a hysterectomy( uterus removal). I will get my uterus removed."
The procedure involved making two small incisions below the belly and one in the belly button to remove her uterus, cervix, and fallopian tubes.
Kaz also noted that, despite the surgery, she will not enter early menopause since her ovaries will remain intact.
She will continue to ovulate as long as her ovaries are functioning. However, her doctor mentioned the possibility of endometriosis on her right ovary, which will be addressed during the procedure.
After the surgery, Kaz reflected on her healing journey, expressing sadness about how she had taken her health for granted.
"It makes me feel sad. I am more grateful for life nowadays because the thought of losing it has crossed my mind so much. My body is feeling a little bit weak, my spirit is feeling defeated but I am gonna fight that."
