She recently posted about her journey, saying, "This weekend officially marks 10 years since my life was completely altered, so I’ve been reflecting and internalizing these past two days. I don’t want to say too much, maybe one day I’ll write a book 😌
One thing is for sure: the body always keeps score, so I’m glad I’m taking good care of it nowadays because it carries all the trauma even when you don’t think it does. Following her rescue, Wangechi was rushed to the hospital, where she was in and out of consciousness. She recalled giving her mother a thumbs up and being urged to fight for her life as she was wheeled into surgery.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Wangechi credits her mother for being her pillar of strength throughout this difficult time.
"It’s actually wild to me that I’ve been living my second life for the past 10 years. Only my mother and I truly understand what today means," she said.
