Bwire, also known as Dida for her role in the TV series Sultana, passed away on September 5 while receiving cancer treatment in Turkey.
Her family announced her death in a statement, expressing their gratitude for the support she received.
“It is with heavy hearts and humble acceptance that we announce Winfred Bwire Ndubi lost her battle with cancer while undergoing treatment in Turkey. We thank you all for your overwhelming support, prayers, and generosity.”
Prior to her passing, Bwire had made a heartfelt appeal for public support to raise nearly 5 million shillings for her treatment abroad.
In a passionate video shared a month before her expected travel, she said, "If you can support me, I have nothing to give in return, but you will save my life. I didn’t want this video to be emotional; I wanted it to be filled with hope." Tragically, this was her last video before her death was announced.
Bwire, who had been battling metastatic breast cancer and frequently documented her struggle on social media, also ran a foundation dedicated to the condition.
Her body arrived in Kenya a week ago and was received by mourners at the airport. The general public and the creative industry have since called on the government to take more action to make cancer treatment more affordable.
