Media personality Lulu Hassan has reflected on her final interaction with the late actress Dida Bwire, who passed away from breast cancer while receiving treatment in Turkey.
Friends and family gathered at Mount Zion to honour the celebrated actress.
During Dida's memorial service on Sunday, Lulu shared, "A few days before she went to Turkey for treatment, she repeatedly urged me and mentioned that she and her mother had a gift for me. I told her to focus on her treatment first and assured her that I would receive the gifts when she returned."
Shortly thereafter, Lulu received a package from Dida. "She wanted to know where I was so she could send the package. At that time, I was on the South Coast. True to her word, I received a box full of gifts."
Lulu added that, unbeknownst to her, Dida, renowned for her role in Sultana, was using this gesture to say her goodbyes. "If I had read that message more carefully, I would have understood that she was bidding farewell."
Lulu and her husband Rashid Abdalla, founders of Jiffy Pictures—the production company behind Sultana—were Dida's employers. Dida passed away on September 5, 2024, while undergoing cancer treatment in Turkey.
Following her death, her family issued a statement to her followers, expressing gratitude for their support.
The announcement read, "It is with heavy hearts and humble acceptance of God's will that we announce Winfred Bwire Ndubi lost her battle with cancer on September 5, 2024, while undergoing treatment in Turkey. We thank you all for your overwhelming support, prayers, and generous giving during her treatment. We will share more details in due course."
Dida Bwire will be laid to rest on Saturday, September 21, 2024. May she rest in peace.
