Ian Washika, a youthful leader from Kakamega County, has launched his own football tournament called the Ian Washika Super Cup.

The event, set for December 2024, will include teams from Matungu, Mumias West, and Mumias East.

Washika, who recently showed interest in the county senate seat, noted that the competition intends to bring Kakamega's young people together via their mutual love of football.

Purpose of the football tournament?

He emphasized that the event, scheduled over the holiday season, will engage young people while also curbing criminal activities associated with idle time.

"This tournament aims to bring the youth of Kakamega together through talent.

Also, since it is in December, a lot of youth are idle and may indulge themselves in crime. This tournament will keep them busy," said Washika.

Despite the beneficial impact of the initiative, Washika is experiencing financial difficulties.

He has urged potential sponsors to support the tournament, improve the event, and benefit the community.

Good News

Just the other day, Washika was again in the news after Kakamega County received medical supplies.

Washika, who has been at the forefront of championing quality healthcare, was fulfilled after various hospitals in the county received medical supplies.

The youthful leader had joined other youths in demonstrating against the deteriorating situation of hospitals that saw many die in what they termed as incompetent doctors.

After receiving the news, he thanked the chief officer of health after the Kakamega County Referral Hospital received medicine worth KSh 34 million.
