Winnie Bwire was a Kenyan actress who shot to fame for her role as 'Dida' in the popular Citizen TV drama series 'Sultana.'

Bwire succumbed to cancer today, Thursday 5th September 2024 while receiving treatment in Turkey. Her family announced the sad news to her followers thanking them for supporting her.

Bwire started her art at the age of six when he would do poems and plays.

Her first professional screenplay was in a Kenyan project dubbed 'Penzi' in 2014 where her star started shining.

She then features in other projects like 'Tehanini' Kisasa' 'Kalimani Dynasty' and 'Sultana.'

Bwire had been in a romantic relationship with Dan Sonko before the two called it quits in 2023.

She was battling metastatic breast cancer which according to cancer.net,  is when breast cancer spreads to an area farther from where it started to another part of the body.

She had previously made appeals to settle her medical bills.

Her last appeal was two weeks ago where she urged Kenyans to help her get Ksh 5 million to travel to Turkey for medical attention.

"I got struck by a fever, but my appetite is back. I thank God for all those small things," she said in an emotional video

The actress explained that she was doing well with her medication until she began experiencing side effects.

"You wouldn't believe it—it has over 41 side effects, and you never know which one will hit. You experience some of them at different times, and it keeps changing," she shared.

Her doctors have since advised her to stop taking the medication. Although she has secured visas for her treatment abroad, financial constraints are holding her back.

"If you can support me, I have nothing to give in return, but you will save my life. I didn't want this video to be emotional; I wanted it to be filled with hope. Right now, I'm so frustrated by how expensive healthcare is. Every time I feel like I've made ten steps forward, it's like I'm being dragged back eight steps. Thank you so much for praying for me."

She had several talents among them acting, scriptwriting, songwriting, singing, painting, and interior design.

At the same time, she was a skilled baker and a businesswoman.

The late Bwire had a degree in Industrial Fine Art and Design from Makerere University.
