Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii sought to explain to a Church congregation why the two statues of Faith Kipyegon and Eliud Kipchoge were poorly done.

"Najua kulikuwa na makosa kidogo kidogo, unajua kama we ni mtu mdogo, na unanza maneno huja kuwa perfect," he blamed the appearance of the statues.

He was speaking at the ACK Bishop Muge Memorial Chapel on Sunday, Aug 18.

He blamed it on the lack of allocation of funds from the Central Government to do a perfect job.

"You know we didn't have a lot of money we didn't have any money from the Government, tunajitetea,  so business community adopted projects, so wanasema zita kuja na surprise siku ya jioni hio, si makosa yetu,"

Pictures of the statues quickly went viral online, leading to an uproar and eventually, the statues were withdrawn.

"So and you know with the media, publicity mara moja, pa pa pa."

The Governor had been hopeful the statues would help in branding the City of Champions, but the final outcome was terrible, but too late.

"Now Faiths face ...*laughing* ..it looked like a nyangau..then Kipchoge's ..*laughing* .It was not our fault, but it was too late"

The images trended worldwide, as he talked about the embarrassment and negative publicity" The newest city trended, we were on BBC, Guardian and Aljazeera."

There are offers to do a better job.
