Renowned Jamaican dancehall artist, Adidja Palmer, popularly known as Vybz Kartel has gotten candid about his health following concerns from his fans and netizens at large.

The 48-year-old 'Summer Time' hitmaker got released from prison last week and his appearance caught many by surprise.  He was no longer his skinny self with an oval face. Vybz appeared to have gained weight; his face was also surprisingly puffy with his eyes bulging out.

Speaking about his condition and how it felt being free after spending 13 years in prison the father of 7 candidly revealed he had scheduled medical appointments, and a planned-out diet aimed at helping him manage his illness.

"Healthwise, you know, I'm working on my health right now, but being free is a fantastic feeling. I could be better, but I'm super upbeat.

I have appointments with my doctor on Monday so that I can have regular meetings with her, and she can keep track of me in real-time," the father of 7 said while speaking to Fox.

Before adding, "She even mentioned that she's going to… put me on a special diet so she can monitor me every day, which is a far cry from when you're in prison. I've hit the ground running,"

The Jamaican is suffering from Graves' disease which is an autoimmune disorder that leads to an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism).

Graves occurs when the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone, forcing the immune system to attack healthy tissue. Its treatment includes radioactive iodine therapy, anti-thyroid medicines, beta blockers and surgery.
