Legendary football player Dennis Oliech is back in the spotlight, sparking discussions about his past decisions.

Oliech started trending after Kenyan athlete Winfred Yavi, based in Bahrain, won gold and set a new Olympic record in the women's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 08:52:67.

Years ago, Oliech turned down an offer of Ksh 800 million to change his citizenship. In a past interview with Churchill, he expressed regret over his decision.

He mentioned that if given a second chance, he would accept the offer because he feels that the Kenyan government does not adequately celebrate its heroes.

"I have regrets. Arab countries might offer substantial money, but they can frustrate you later. I asked for a day to think about it but never went back. Given another chance, I would take it because Kenya doesn’t appreciate its heroes," Oliech said during the interview.

Oliech previously revealed that he was offered Ksh 800 million to change his citizenship but declined the offer.

"I was told to change my citizenship and receive Ksh 800 million. They gave me an hour to decide and asked me to call my family to inform them of my decision. Most of the people I called focused on the money," he recounted.

Only one person, Adam Nyakundi of The Insyder, advised him, saying, "Des, you are the one living there; you know the life there. Make the decision that best fits what you want."

Oliech noted that although the money was substantial, he was told not to worry about it as they had plenty.
