Mungai Eve's confession exposes misconceptions about family planning methods

Online Content creator Mungai Eve recently opened up on a Q&A about using implants after netizens noticed how visible it was on her arm.

Her reason for using implants which is one of the family planning methods is because she is not ready to have children.

She revealed she has been using an implant since 2020 when she was 20yrs and it has been effective for her.

" So many people have been able to view my implant since last year when it became very visible but i have been using an implant since 2020." Mungai Eve said.

She went ahead to advise other ladies to visit gynecologists to find which contraceptive would work for them when they are not ready to have children. "If you are not ready to bring a life in this world, why do you bring it? Just go protect yourself," she finished

The majority of ladies in the comment section came out to show how illiterate they are on contraceptive methods and their side effects.

One of them went ahead to say Mungai Eve would experience ectopic pregnancy in the future. Another lady added that any lady with an implant will have difficulty getting pregnant in years to come.

Most misconceptions about family planning affecting women are as follows;

  1. Family planning is only to avoid children: Family planning is not only for avoiding children but rather for planning when to have children and spacing between the pregnancies  due to health complications
  2. Contraceptives cause infertility: Many believe that using contraceptives will lead to permanent infertility. Fertility comes back to normal after discontinuing your method 
  3. Contraceptives are harmful: There is a belief that hormonal contraceptives have severe side effects. Contraceptives can have effects on everyone's body it is better to consult a health provider to give the right method 
  4. Birth control prevents STI's: The only birth control method that that could potentially help prevent STIs is using condoms 
  5. Contraceptives will cause weight gain: Contraceptives increase appetite which can lead to weight gain when not eating properly. For some, gaining weight might be the only side effect of their birth control method.

Misconceptions can lead to confusion or avoidance of effective methods which may affect an individual's ability to prevent unintended pregnancy.

It is crucial to understand misconceptions about birth control methods for clear and accurate decision making while choosing the appropriate birth control method.
