On July 9, 2024, Bishop Allan Kiuna passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer. He left behind his widow, Kathy Kiuna, and their three children.
Many expected Kathy to take a break from church activities following her husband's death. Contrary to expectations, the co-founder of JCC has continued to be active in church life.
During a recent service at JCC, Kathy addressed the congregation, explaining that she prefers to remain present and mourn alongside those who have also lost a leader.
“People keep asking how I’m doing. I’m overwhelmed and don’t know how to respond. Today I might be strong, and tomorrow I might struggle. Walking into church and seeing pictures of him brings up a lot of emotions,” Kathy said.
She shared that she is still navigating her grief. “I might feel like isolating myself, but that’s not my nature. I can cry and still get up and try again. I’m in and out, trying to manage my emotions, and I ask for understanding.”
Kathy acknowledged the collective grief within the church community, stating, “We’re all grieving together at JCC. I need to be here with everyone as we support each other through this journey.”
