Popular Mugithi singer Lawrence Njuguna, also known as DJ Fatxo, has clarified that being linked to the death of the late Jeff Mwathi early last year did not affect him psychologically.

In a recent interview on Obinna TV, the 28-year-old artist expressed gratitude to God for not succumbing to depression due to the challenging situation.

However, he noted that after news of the death spread, he started receiving a lot of hate from social media users, something he was not accustomed to.

"I thank God I did not succumb to depression. I swear to God, if I had fallen into depression, I don't think I would have ever recovered,” Fatxo said.

He added, “The only thing that was troubling was the mental strain. When I started gaining popularity in music, I can say I was a beloved artist; I never saw any insults directed at me. I had never been involved in any scandal. I had never been arrested, never been handcuffed.

I think where I come from and the challenges we faced at home did not allow us to be bad kids and engage in other negative behaviors. We were used to working hard and being diligent. I have always been a good person, and I know that.

“I was very shocked to see insults on my page, and I wondered why. That was the hardest thing to deal with. People were really after my blood. These demonstrations we are doing against the Finance Bill, they had protested against me many times. They would come saying, 'Arrest DJ Fatxo.' But I thank God so much because He alone stood by me.”

While distancing himself from any wrongdoing in the death of the 23-year-old, he pointed out that he is not a significant person who could evade justice.

He also made it clear that the investigation officers did not find any wrongdoing on his part, which is why he was never arrested even once.

He noted that no one was charged in connection to the mysterious death of the late Jeff Mwathi.

He explained that the prosecution side did not see a reason to open a case as no one was involved in the incident, as alleged by many.
