Khalif Kairo, a pilot and entrepreneur, has been prominently seen at recent protests, leveraging his influence as a businessman with a large following to rally against the finance bill.
In a video released yesterday, he directly questioned the government about the frequent abductions occurring in the country.
"Why is your government kidnapping people? What are you afraid of?" Kairo asked in the video, visibly angered by what he perceives as government actions intended to instill fear among protesters.
"Kenya is a diplomatic country with a constitution," he continued. "You are not doing us a favour; we gave you our mandate, and I personally voted for you."
The car dealer also expressed disappointment with Deputy President William Ruto, whom he had supported because of promises to address the country's issues. "Now citizens are taking to the streets to exercise their right to protest," Kairo lamented.
"Have you seen the video? People are being abducted as if they are members of Al Shabaab. Even Al Shabaab members don't get kidnapped like this. Why are you kidnapping people?"
