Multi-award winning songstress Nadia Mukami has fingered nominated Senator Karen Nyamu over her insensitive remarks in regard to the ongoing calls from Kenyans to reject the proposed 2024 financial bill.

Nyamu angered a lot of Kenyans after she intimated she didn't care about sanitary towels getting heavily taxed as she does not even use them in the first place.

The mother of 3 shared this while engaging in heated debates with netizens calling her out for defending the bill.

"Why not? So many Chinese companies already manufacturing here exactly what we import. At least the labour and raw materials is ours," part of her comment read as she tried arguing her case.

In a different sentence, the politician wrote, "I use tampons," after being asked by an Instagram user which affordable and durable Kenyan brand she uses.

Reacting to Karenzo's remarks, Nadia shared a screen grab of the enraging comments accompanied by a lengthy post calling out the nominated senator.

"A very careless COMMENT!!! Sometimes people really need to invest in PR professionals and social media managers to avoid SUCH COMMENTS!" part of the artist's heated post read.

She went on to highlight how period poverty was already a huge problem within the country with girls from poor backgrounds going to extreme measures to be able to secure towels monthly.

The 'Kai Wangu' crooner also pointed out how much sanitary pads prices had shot up as she questioned why commodities such as condoms were free considering sex was a choice (apart from assault cases) while pads were being taxed but having a menstrual cycle wasn't a choice.

"Imagine there are girls in marginalized areas who go to the extent of having s3x for pads, girls who skip school during those days of the month! Pads nikiwa high school zilikuwa 45 - 55 bob ile packet ya 5 saa hii ni 80 -120!

The conversations we should be having is how can we make pads affordable if NOT FREE! Si kuna condoms free, why not pads???? This was a very careless comment!!!I!! #rejectfinancebill2024," the rest of her post read.

Sanitary towels and diaper prices are among some of the biggest concerns that have dominated conversations surrounding tax proposals in the Finance Bill 2024.

According to sections in the Bill, an eco levy would be applied to imported finished products which ironically dominate the market.
