Celebrated singer and songwriter Victoria Kimani has become the first Kenyan songstress to be honored by Instagram through their campaign dubbed ‘Made by Africa, Loved by the World’

The international and pan-African campaign celebrates incredible women who have established a global presence through their exceptional talents and passion in sports, entertainment, and music.

Ms Kimani was part of the four trailblazing women from the continent who were spotlighted by META through their photo and video-sharing platform Instagram. The other three superstars were; Eniola Aluko, Bontle Modiselle, and Tasneem Elaidy from Nigeria, South Africa, and Egypt respectively.

The My Shine hitmaker expressed her joy for being part of a noble that will impact many talents.

“I’m a different kind of African. I’m a global Citizen but I’m still authentically me. Authenticity is important because there is only one you and God did not make two of me,” Victoria Kimani said in part.

The songstress also touched on her upbringing and how the environment she was raised ended up influencing her music.

“I grew up between the United States and different parts of the continent. I knew from the time that my Dad told me that I could sing that probably I would be a singer. When I moved back I wanted to be a pan-African artist as I didn’t want to be only defined by where I’m from or where my parents are from,” Victoria explained.

According to Victoria, there is a lot of potential on the African continent as a lot of people are super ambitious with so much potential.

“Music is an escape for some people. It’s something that has some powers to heal you and empower you. It’s so spiritual…and like music can take you anywhere,” Ms Kimani added.

Speaking about the campaign, Kezia Anim-Addo, Meta’s Communications Director for Africa, Middle East & Turkey (AMET) said: “For the fourth year running, we’re incredibly excited to shine a spotlight and celebrate just some of the amazing women from across the continent and beyond, who are having a remarkable impact globally.
