Comedian and activist Eric Omondi has called on President William Ruto, cabinet secretaries, and Members of Parliament to take a one-year pay cut to show solidarity with Kenyans struggling with the harsh economic climate.

In an interview with Citizen TV on Wednesday, Omondi also urged the President to reduce his travel, citing the significant resources being spent that could be redirected to alleviate the high cost of living for citizens.

"The President has traveled 68 times in six months, often with a large delegation. I have petitioned the President to travel less. I'm not sure how far it will go," Omondi said.

"I challenge the government—from the President and Deputy President to cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries, and Members of Parliament—to take a pay cut for just one year."

Omondi argued that some of the President's foreign trips have little tangible benefit to the country and suggested that sending representatives could be more cost-effective.

"The financial aid from Joe Biden following Ruto’s visit doesn't match the expenses incurred on that trip, including the plane used. We must hold this government accountable," he emphasized.

"When the President travels, the delegation is huge. He doesn't need to accept every invitation, especially since it's taxpayer money."

He added, "We need to set our priorities straight to identify where we can cut spending and invest more in development."
