Ex-BBC presenter Ciru Muriuki has opened up about battling endometriosis. Endometriosis is the same condition media personality Jahmby Koikai was battling until her death.

It is an often painful disorder in which tissue similar to the tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus — the endometrium — grows outside your uterus. Endometriosis most commonly involves your ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue lining your pelvis.

Sharing her experience while appearing on 'The Trend' show hosted in honour of Jahmby revealed she had undergone 4 surgeries.

"I have stage 4 endometriosis but I have not suffered a fraction of how much Jahmby suffered. Hers had gone to her teeth, lungs and Diaphragm. I have had four endometriosis surgeries."

In the past Jahmby revealed since she had her menses at age 13, they were always painful.

Speaking to Mungai Eve, Njambi recounted living with the disease for many years. She said at some point the disease cost her job as her bosses could not understand she was suffering.

"It was tough handling sickness and nobody knew what I was going through," Njambi said.

"It was unfortunate that nobody believed I was sick, from my bosses, colleagues, lecturers until it was almost tragic. That is when people started believing I was sick."

She said a few months before she decided to seek medical attention abroad, she was fired after missing a show at a certain media house.

"I lost a reggae job on TV. What happened, on this one day, I was so sick to even go to the studio to record for the show. I called my colleague and told her I was not well. It was the first time I was missing and I was supposed to interview someone and so, I failed to show up," Njambi narrated adding that her colleague knew she was sick since they were from the same school.

"She told me I had absconded my duty. She pushed the issue to our HR and said I refused to attend. I was fired despite her knowing that I was sick. She knew I was sick since we were schoolmates. I left and that helped to seek treatment."
