Actors' Guild of Nigeria issues new directives after actor Junior Pope's death

• The actor was on a boat ride from the set of a movie he was acting in.

New demands have been made in the Nigerian movie industry by the Actors' Guild of Nigeria. This follows the death of talented actor Junior Pope who drowned after his boat capsized on the Niger River. 

The actor was on a boat ride from the set of a movie he was acting in.

In a letter dated 11th April, all films involving riverine areas and boat riding have been suspended indefinitely.

“Following the tragic incident of a boat mishap that claimed the life of Junior Pope and three other crew members at waterside of River Niger Cable point Asaba on April 10, all films that involve riverine areas and boat riding are hereby suspended indefinitely," read part of the letter

The actors' guild further added that there should be no shoot in all locations nationwide in Nigeria on Thursday, April 11, 2024.

The film actor Junior Pope was shooting was suspended and the director was not allowed to work with any actors till further notice.

“The film titled ‘The Other Side of Life’ is suspended indefinitely. Also, no actor is allowed to work with Adamma Luke as a producer till further notice."

“While we keep searching for the bodies of the remaining persons, may their souls rest in peace.”
