South African police officials have revealed that 6 suspects have been apprehended in connection to the murders of South African rapper Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA, and his close friend, celebrity chef and entrepreneur Tebello "Tibz" Motshoane.

The two were gunned down on February 10, last year in a drive-by shooting on Florida Road outside a hotel in Durban.

News of their murders shocking South Africans as well as his fans and the entertainment industry across the globe.

According to the police, the 6 who are all aged below 36 years were paid hit-men who had been instructed to trail and target the late South African artist. However, as of now, no motives have been revealed.

"It was clear that AKA was monitored from the airport and Tibz was not the intended target in the murder on Florida Road in Durban," Lt Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the KwaZulu-Natal provincial police commissioner, said in a press briefing on yesterday evening.

He went on to add that they had uncovered evidence that the 6 who played different roles in the plot to murder AKA were not acting on their own accord and had actually been paid to execute the mission.

"We know they were paid for this," Lt Gen Mkwananzi added.

The suspects who are currently locked up in police custody include 2 gunmen who are believed to have fired several rounds at the victims, 2 spotters who followed the artist from Durban's airport, 1 arms dealer who sourced the firearms that were used in the ambush murder, as well as the mastermind.

Police Minister Bheki Cele and other senior police officials while briefing journalists in Durban on the developments, added that authorities are still looking for one more suspect linked to the case.

Interestingly, through their research, the police found that some of the suspects are actually "contract killers" who are also linked to other murder cases that are unrelated to these killings.

The suspects are due to appear in court tomorrow, Thursday, 28 February. Hopefully, their being brought to justice might bring some reprieve to the young men who were taken too soon from this world.

South Africans have welcomed the news of the suspects' arrests which came just 2 weeks after AKA's family celebrated his heavenly birthday. The artist would have turned 36 on February, 10.
