Watch: Why Tanzanian singer Nay wa Mitego's new song has earned Kenyans' praise

• The musician is well-known for his songs with a great message.

Emmanuel Elibarick, widely known as Nay wa Mitego, is a powerful Tanzanian musician whose songs resonate with audiences due to their impactful political messages.

His latest release, 'Wapi huko,' takes a direct aim at a particular country facing challenges. In the lyrics, Nay raps,

"Hio nchi bwana uchumi wao ni tafrani, muda wa kazi umeme haupatikani. Soka lao limechanganywa na na siasa linachosha mashabiki ndo wajuaji kuliko makocha."

He describes concerning behaviors, stating, "Ni rahisi kupata ngono kuliko chakula, wasomi wengi hakuna kazi ila wanazururua," highlighting societal issues.

Nay also points out the ostentatious nature of the wealthy, suggesting they are out of touch, "Na huko matajiri wanaishi kifahari, maisha yao halisi, wana njaa kali."

The culture of flaunting wealth and engaging in transactional relationships is evident, "Tembea uone watu wapo serious, kuna madem huko wako very fast, una mtongoza leo na gesi inaisha leo kabla huja kaa vizuri na kodi imeisha leo, mara oh mchezo mwenzio siojalipa."

Nay criticizes the leadership for ignoring citizens' pleas, "Wananchi hawasikilizwi, wanalia na mungu wao, ah we wapi huko, vijana kubet, hio ndio ajira yao."

Sugar mummies, sponsors, and single mothers also face Nay's scrutiny, as he calls out each group for perpetuating illicit culture, "Masingle mother kibao utadhani ndo mila zao ah we wapi huko."

He highlights various societal issues, including the influence of wise elders, the upbringing of the youth, and the preference for nudity over education,

"Hiyo nchi bana inavituko vingi wazee wa busara ndo wanatembea na mabinti, vijana nao wanalelewa na mashangazi hawataki kufanya kazi, kuna mabinti wasomi na wanategema uchi hapendwi mtu huko linapendwa pochi."

Reactions to the song on social media indicate that it resonates strongly with listeners, with many appreciating Nay wa Mitego for addressing pertinent issues.

One commenter acknowledges the truth in the lyrics, specifically referencing Kenya, while another praises the artist for his authenticity and acknowledges the historical connection between Kenya and Tanzania.
