Dr. Ezekiel Mutua the CEO  of the Kenya classification board, gave a brief statement on his X platform, formerly Twitter, as a response to questions raised on the criteria of royalty allocation among the artists following the recent allocations.

After the recent distribution of the MCSK royalties, a lot of questions were raised all over with a few Kenyans asking how those royalties are distributed.

Dr. Ezekiel took to his social media to explain the criteria by which these royalties are shared. The Dr. said that it depends on the number of songs registered within the MCK fraternity.

"By the way good people you don't get big money from MCSK royalties just because you are a big artist. You get big money because you are a member of the CMO and you have updated your records there are big musicians with over 300 songs, but they have submitted only five to MCSK.

They are only paid for those five despite their music playing everywhere. a less popular artist is getting more because they are keen to update their records every time they produce a song. unless musicians respect their hustle and take music as serious business, it's difficult to make money." Dr. Ezekiel tweeted

When asked if indeed he does collect royalties from music not registered the CEO responded that indeed they do.

"Yes, we do. For non-members, one has to make a claim and prove that they own the copyright. They have to identify the songs themselves, which broadcasting stations they were played by, the number of air plays, and proof of copyright ownership. Then provide their ID, KRA pin, and bank accounts." Ezekiel responded.
