  • Giriama
  •  Digo

The Digo are also found in Tanzania due to their proximity to the common border.

The Kambi (Councils of Elders) act as the custodians of these Kayas and the related cultural expressions (oral traditions and performing arts)

Each Mijikenda ethnic group has its unique customs and dialects of the Mijikenda language.

The kayas were the first homesteads of the Mijikenda peoples after their exodus from Singwaya.

 Eleven of the approximately 30 kaya forests have been inscribed together as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
