A foreign cabinet minister has filed a lawsuit against his Kenyan-residing wife for allegedly using their four underage children in the Real Housewives of Nairobi production without his permission.

Kenyan reality television programme The Real Housewives of Nairobi follows the personal and professional lives of numerous Kenyan women.

Young Rich Television Limited produces it, and Multichoice airs it on Showmax. According to the minister, the couple's children are being filmed at their Nairobi, Kenya marital residence.

He claims that this has turned into an inappropriate setting for them to be in. “The filming and broadcasting covers aspects of my wife’s life in her marriage to me and her life as a mother to the children which I didn’t agree to.”

The producer of the show, Young Rich Television Limited, allegedly called his wife in September 2023 or thereabouts to invite her to join the cast of the show.

But the wife supposedly found out she needed surgery after receiving a medical diagnosis.

They both decided that because of her poor condition, she would not participate in the programme once she was released from the hospital.

They then went ahead and informed the show's producers that the wife had decided not to participate in the reality show.

However, he found out later that she continued to appear in the show, which was taped in several places, including their Nairobi home.

“I have no problem with her taking part in the reality show but her participation should be without any mention of the children or myself either in my capacity as her husband, father of the children or my position as a leader."

He claims that their marriage's positive and negative aspects are both highlighted by the reality show.

Considering his standing in society, he claims that this portrayal will probably subject him to derision and humiliation. He adds that the kids would probably be subjected to bullying as a result.

To prevent the producers from shooting the children for the television programme "The Real Housewives of Nairobi," he is asking for an injunction.

A prohibition against Young Rich Television Limited, Multichoice Africa Holdings B.V. airing his marriage life with the wife and their kids on Showmax or any other network is also requested.

The pleadings must be served to the respondents, under Justice Chacha Mwita's decision.

Within 14 days of the petition being served, the Respondents must submit and deliver their answers. The submissions will be highlighted in front of Justice Lawrence Mugambi on June 10 of the following year.
