8 month old baby rescued from Indian Ocean

• The mother was swiftly arrested.

A baby was rescued from the Indian Ocean after the mother threw the child into the water from the Ferry.

Videos circulating online show divers jumping into the deep waters to rescue the baby, as onlookers expressed how horrified they were at such an incident.

In the videos, we see passengers on the ferry doing their best to help the divers secure the rope pulling the man holding the rescued baby.

Several men lean into the sid eof the ferry to try and grab the floaters to hoist up the individual holding the child.

In a statement on Sunday, December 3, Kenya Red Cross said the infant is safe and at the rescue centre.

"Heroic intervention at the Likoni ferry crossing. An 8-month-old child, miraculously saved after a distressing incident in the Indian Ocean, is now safe at the Kenya Red Cross rescue center. Thanks to swift action and our heartfelt gratitude to the rescue team," Kenya Red Cross said.

Kenyans online are recalling the drowning of a woman and her daughter.

Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu were locked in a tight embrace, according to images emerging from the car in which they drowned.

Mother and daughter drowned on September 29 and it took rescuers 13 days to retrieve the wreckage of their car from the seabed.

When the wreck was pulled out, the two bodies were found still in an embraced position, indicating that they breathed their last while locked together.
