President William Ruto on Tuesday reconnected with a young environmentalist Mutinda Mutuku.

The President met Mutinda during National Tree Growing Day at Kiu Wetlands in Makindu, Makueni County.

Ruto praised Mutinda saying he is a symbol of the country's green initiative.

"When young people embrace environmentalism, we have hope for a better tomorrow.  Master Mutinda, a symbol of our green initiative, planted a commemorative tree at State House Kenya, Nairobi, next to those planted by United Kingdom King Charles III and Queen Camilla," he said.

The President interacted with Mutinda as he showed him around the State House.

Mutinda Mutuku is a Grade One pupil at Kiambani Primary School, Makueni County.

Ruto met him at a tree planting event in Makueni and he promised to keep watch over the trees that had been planted.

Today, he paid the President a visit to see whether trees are being planted in Nairobi just as he is doing back home.

Mutinda gave Ruto a report on the trees that were planted in Makueni.

He said they are doing well since it is wet and he doesn't need to water them. But he goes over to have a look every day.
