Sauti Sol was founded back in 2005 as a Capella group by Savara, Chimano and Bien who had met at Upper Hill High School and performed in Voices in the Light, a music group at the school.

Polycarp joined later and when he did, they decided to call themselves Sauti Sol meaning Voices from the sun.
