Mejja and Iyanii are two celebrities helping the mental health movement. They are using themselves to shine a light on mental health awareness.

The two singers have a collabo to be released on Sep 29. The snippet of the song dubbed MAISHA has sparked major conversations about the subject.

Iyanii says mental health awareness is a subject that needs to be addressed more in our society and has a noble cause after he releases his song.

He added that seeing a public figure speaking openly about mental health issues could also reduce stigma. "Silence has made mental health a silent pandemic. YOU ARE NOT ALONE," he assured.

He said that we still have strides to make,

"I will be launching a one-week campaign to create awareness about mental health. I call upon my fellow influencers, artists, dancers, fans, and Kenyans at large to join me this coming week from 2-6 October to commemorate our friends and loved ones who are battling or lost their lives through depression."

Kimani Mbugua, a former Citizen TV journalist on Sep 26 also rallied Kenyans to his issue about bipolar, and other addictions. He told Obinna that he went public with his challenge and it has yielded support from others.

"I think the most important thing that I got from speaking out is a lot of people are suffering in silence. I have given out my number, people are calling me and we're having conversations about how depression is affecting them."

In 2022, Mejja spoke out about how he had contemplated suicide after he was dumped via text.

He told Radio Jambo in an interview, “It’s good to talk about depression if you have friends reach out, call them, and see them physically because they lie sometimes that they are okay and they are not.

And don’t believe everything you see on social media, because if I didn’t tell you my story you would never know. Don't wish for someone's life because you don’t know their story.’’
