Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir has dismissed five board members of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
In a Gazette notice dated September 8, Chirchir has revoked the appointment of George Mwakule, Moses Murengu Mutuli, Daniel Ndonye, Mercy Muthoni Wambugu and Caroline Gathii.
He has instead named Anthony Gachau Mbuthia, Diba Daudi, Abraham Kipruto and Jennipher Nawoi Long’or to replace them as new board members.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 12 (1) (g) of the Energy Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum appoints…to be members for a period of three years,” reads the notice.
The Authority was established in 2019 as a successor of the Energy Regulatory Commission.
It is tasked with regulating petroleum, electricity and renewable energy sectors in the country.
Similarly, CS Chirchir has raided the Geothermal Development Company (GDC) Limited and fired six members of the board.
They are Hillary Koech, Nelly Yatich, Kamau Kuria, Mwendia Nyaga and John Gicamu.
The positions have been taken by Boniface Lesyampe, Salome Kabando, Kipkoros Kandie, Stephen Kisaka and Eustus Mureithi Maina.
The agency is mandated to execute surface geothermal development, including prospecting for, drilling, harnessing and selling geothermal energy to electricity-generating companies for energy production and sale to the national grid.
