DJ Krowbar and his wife Joy Wanjiru have been bravely going through a rough patch since Wanjiru was diagnosed with Kidney failure two years ago.

Krowbar on Tuesday, August 29 went public with their struggles and appealed for financial help from Kenyans for his wife's Kidney transplant.

The diagnosis was made in April 2022.

The DJ also got candid about her medical situation with Radio Maisha's Mwende Macharia where he spoke about how the news was broken to him.

"She woke up on a Sunday not feeling well, and I told her to go to the doctor while I looked after the children. I was called later and told to rush to the hospital"

Medics had done many tests on her and "then the doctor told them she has kidney failure brought on by high blood pressure."

They sought a second opinion, hoping for different results, sadly it was the same - kidney failure.

The doctor recommended immediate surgery, and so she was admitted.

They had to bring down her pressure and this horrible feeling overwhelmed Krowbar, he cried in the toilet.

"I went to the bathroom to cry, yani huyo dame alikuwa analia, I couldn't believe this was her life. Two weeks later she had an infection, we went back to the hospital. We returned after two weeks, "

This hit them badly and this was the reality. They had a hard time but decided to accept her condition.

"This was like 8 to 12 weeks down the line. We then started dialysis last year. Tumeinyorosha. Dialysis is something inakupeleka mbio sana. And it is so expensive. Let me tell you something, My opinion here is biased, lipa NHIF. It can lead to financial stress."

They have been in and out of hospital. One session is sh9,500. She does 2. In a month, the family spends Sh80,000.

"That is just dialysis only. You must also change your diet. There are also tablets for Vitamin D. Those expenses are so many. There were times when it was so expensive for us. I was giving up, I asked God to help. I told God I would not ask people for financial help."

They need Sh6 million for the transplant. They have done several tests to find compatibility with the organ donor.

After a year, the person who has gone through a transplant will need medication for life.
