Rev Kathy Kiuna and her daughter Vanessa have a strong mother-daughter bond, where they openly discuss family matters, inspiring each other to make a marriage work.
Vanessa Kiuna Kovacs is married to a mzungu named Robert. They have been together for ten years. She is now 32.
The couple got candid about having rough patches in their marriage with Robert praising her for being logical in fights, something he loves.
Vee in a podcast called Chat with Mum and Vee, spoke about several scenarios in marriage including cheating, and addictions, and then spoke about theirs.
They now live in Kenya, and their marital strife prior had interesting patterns.
"It's taken us a while we've been together for what? Ten years, 11 this year. We were ok in the very beginning, then we had a rough patch, and then we got ok again and then we got engaged. Then we had this minor rough, then we got married," Vanessa said.
They addressed these problems, "Then we had a rough patch, and we found that our fights were in circles. We were fighting about the same thing," Robert revealed.
Vanessa said that it was because of conflicting opinions about how a marriage should be.
Robert added, "The biggest thing was that I kept it under the bonnet so we would be fine for like 3 months, and literally like clockwork, I would just explode."
Robert revealed that they have a 3-month argument pattern. He was surprised to have discovered this for some strange reason.
Vanessa said that they have now grown up, "It was hard work, we made it through our rough patches although looking back they were minor issues."
Her husband added that they were inspired by Kathy and Allan. "What I've noticed about you is you address stuff there and then, you fix it."
Kathy told them that love is a choice. "Many times in the marriage you don't always have feelings, there are times you don't even have those feelings."
Vanessa also finished off with her final point. "So I bring up these stories that love is an emotion like if you base your marriage on only love, there are seasons we will have where I can guarantee you that idea of what love should look like cannot sustain you."
