Why I was smoking weed in that viral picture - Karen Nyamu

Several years back when Karen Nyamu was actively campaigning as an unknown politician, a picture of her 'smoking weed' was leaked online.

In an interview with Ala C on his youtube channel Reke Ciume na Ene, Karen addressed the photo, defending her actions.

She had been dubbed the Youth President, a title she holds on her Facebook page.

Ala C asked "There was a picture of you in a place where there was a lot of smoke. As a leader is that part of leadership where if you go somewhere and find people doing something, you must also do it?"

She agreed saying "First of all I don't smoke weed, I have never smoked it I am not a weed smoker myself, and I don't do any drugs and on that day when we went there, it was a football tournament in ziwani . Maboyz, these are our maboyz, and so when I entered the stadium and they are from the ghetto, they don't know anything else, you have not given them employment, ati to tell them do this instead, hawana job, wako na energy wanaharibiana na nini they are smoking bangi, its the one for ten bob, so they told me mhesh piga moshi , piga moshi moja mhesh"

The persuasion convinced her.

" Will you let them down the maboyz and instead start preaching to them? Ati you tell them Jesus said..they will see like you are stupid. Sio lazima uinhale. Just in the mouth then you exhale, unatoa" she insisted about her action.

"And that is how you will be able to communicate to them because you are at their level, hizi vitu chorea, hizi vitu haziwezi ukiwakashifu they will tell you you are not one of them. Hu si mmoja wetu kwa hivo there is nothing she can tell us" The controversial Senator added.

She also addressed criticism from Kenyans that she was setting a wrong image

"Ï would tell such people those children of yours because you also live with them in the same house and you judge them you are not the best person to talk to that child. I am in a better position because I don't judge people. I'm saying what I also believe. But that thing trended it became a big deal and I was summoned by the Nairobi County Assembly but that story died"

At the time she was working for Nairobi Water Company and as a public servant, she had done wrong.

"That MCA who brought that motion he was the leader of the opposition at the time, a very fiery MCA. We never met but when he did he was like 'kumbe we ni dame mtrue hivo, he thought I was a mtiaji ati he will show me, but he changed his mind when he met me"
