Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has banned the Azimio demonstration scheduled for Wednesday.

He warned that any demonstrations taking place tomorrow (Wednesday) will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

He said the police had not received any notifications about the same despite it being a legal requirement.

Koome added that they got wind of the Wednesday protests via media. 

He noted that the past demos have been threats to national security, owing to the destruction of public property, injuries and loss of lives. 

"In line with NPS mandate to maintain law and order; protect life and property; and preserve peace, we wish to inform the public that any demonstrations that will be held in any part of Kenya on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, will be dealt with promptly in accordance with the law," Koome said in a statement on Tuesday. 

Koome urge Kenyans to carry on with their activities as usual as he commended the National Police Service members for their dedication. 

Azimio has announced that it will hold demos on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
