Scar Mkadinali recently made headlines when he shared a story on his Instagram about turning down a free performance offer in Nigeria.

"Some Nigerians tried to Have Us Perform For Free In Nigeria.. Ati Watatulipia Transport And Accommodation Lol. "

In his Instagram stories, Scar revealed that some Nigerians wanted the group to perform  providing  transport and accommodation expenses but no pay.

''Am a top tier artist in Kenya I cant represent my country like that.''

However, Scar, considering himself a top-tier artist in Kenya, firmly declined the offer, emphasizing his commitment to representing his country in a manner that reflects his worth.

In the ongoing discussion surrounding Scar Mkadinali's refusal to perform for free in Nigeria, event organizer Adekoya Ayobami aka Seun Sharp has shared his perspective on the matter, offering insights into the financial aspects and industry dynamics at play.

Adekoya  response adds another layer to the conversation, highlighting the complexities of the music business.

''Cus they are playing your songs in this Matatu and in pubs on loud stereo does not mean you have blown in Africa or worldwide 000000 hmmmm better add more promotions.'' Adekoya

In his message, Adekoya explains the financial implications of organizing performances for international artists.

He points out that the event promoter or organizer was responsible for purchasing three economy flight tickets, costing a minimum of 451,000 Kenyan shillings, in addition to accommodation, transportation, media rounds, and feeding expenses.

''Plus this guys will still get visa and immigration clearance,  you can't bring Artist all the way from their country and expect them to be on the queue for visa clearance it will be a VIP, All this cost money bro.''

While Scar Mkadinali and the Wakadinali group were offered transport and accommodation, it seems that these arrangements did not align with their expectations.

Adekoya suggests that negotiation could have been an alternative approach. Instead of out rightly declining the offer, artists can discuss additional opportunities such as securing other gigs, media tours, and networking opportunities during their visit to the host country.

''But also know is not about views gone are days of you having crazy views on YouTube or songs. Is Your Songs Really Popular and any country you go can the audience sing it word for word?''

Accepting such offers, according to Adekoya , can provide valuable exposure, allowing artists to connect with fellow artists, DJs, PR professionals, and media outlets. This exposure can lead to more offers and increased recognition in the long run.

The event organizer also points out that many Nigerian artists, including those who are not yet fully recognized, often accept similar offers as a strategic move to save money, network, and gain exposure.

''Most of these Nigeria Artists that are not A,B or C list accept this offer that's why you see Nigerian Artists that are not blown fully yet or recognized yet are traveling everywhere cus this offer saves them money and gives them chance to network.'' Adekoya

He emphasizes that this approach allows them to establish relationships and create future opportunities for collaboration as they build their brand and reputation.

Sharp also acknowledges the prominence of the Nigerian music industry on the African continent and its ability to serve as a launching pad for artists to export their music and brand.

''Take it or leave it as far as Africa music is concerned for now Nigeria and Nigeria Artists is first and fastest route to export your songs and brand or smuggle your music to other parts of the world with ease.'' Adekoya

However, Scar Mkadinali's firm stance resonates with his commitment to representing Kenya with integrity and not compromising his worth as an artist.

His refusal reflects the importance of recognizing the value of artistic work and demanding fair compensation in an industry that often overlooks the financial aspects of an artist's craft.

It highlights the need for artists to strike a balance between exposure, financial compensation, and long-term career growth.
