Mark Zuckerberg's Threads App  has made history after attracting more than 100 million users in just five days.

The App that was launched on July 5th, 2023 set records with celebrities, politicians, and other newsmakers joining the platform.

Even though the app hasn't yet released many features, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg voiced his surprise at the number of sign-ups on Monday.

"Threads reached 100 million sign-ups over the weekend. That's mostly organic demand and we haven't even turned on many promotions yet. Can't believe it's only been 5 days, " he said.

Threads is connected to Instagram and the Twitter rival has its users able to link their profile to their Instagram accounts.

The app does not yet have a direct messaging function and lacks a desktop version that certain users rely on.

The app's 100 million users are said to be much speedier than that of Open AI-owned ChatGPT, which also grew so fast in January two months after its launch.

The chatbot that was launched in November hit 100 million monthly users just two months later.

Recently, however, traffic to the AI-powered chatbot has started to drop off, according to web analytics website.

A few days ago after the launch of Threads, Twitter threatened to sue Meta following the launch of a rival app.

In a cease and desist letter addressed to Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg dated July 5, the company was accused of an 'unlawful misappropriation' of Twitter's trade secrets and intellectual property.

The letter written by Twitter boss Elon Musk's lawyer Alex Spiro claimed that Threads was developed by former Twitter employees.

"Meta deliberately assigned employees to develop, in a matter of months, Meta's copycat 'Threads' app with the specific intent that they use Twitter's trade secrets and other intellectual property in order to accelerate the development of Meta's competing app in violation of both state and federal law as well as those employees' ongoing obligations to Twitter," Spiro said.
