Most Kenyans want Uhuru to retire from politics - poll

The majority of Kenyans believe Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta should avoid politics and enjoy his retirement, the latest poll released by TIFA shows. 

In the poll, 59 per cent of those who participated in the interviews believe he should retire, and keep off politics.  They believe Uhuru should remain active in his family businesses if he wants. 

36 per cent believe that the former President should actively support politicians and policies that he agrees with.

"70 per cent of Kenya Kwanza supporters want Uhuru to retire from politics, compared to 26 per cent of the supporters," the survey stated. 

However, 59 per cent of those that participated in the poll, are undecided. 

"51 per cent of Azimio La Umoja supporters believe that Uhuru should remain active in politics, and support his views," the poll continued. 

TIFA conducted the interviews from March 11 to 19  with 2,065 respondents.

The poll had a margin of error of ±2.12%, with face-to-face interviews conducted at the household level.

It was conducted in (mainly) Swahili and English. 

The interviews were conducted in 9 regions; Central Rift, Coast, Lower Eastern, Mt Kenya, Nairobi, Northern, Nyanza, South Rift, Western. 

Uhuru supported Raila Odinga in the August 9, 2022 elections, asking his fans to vote for his candidate. 

He is on record saying that he respects the choice the people of Kenya made by electing William Ruto as President, but Raila is his president.
