American singer of American origin, Akon, has denied defaming the owner of Twitter, Elon Musk for advertising the price on Twitter verification badges..
The 'Oh Africa' announcer in his now deleted Twitter message accused Elon Musk of "forcing" people to pay for Twitter badges that were created to protect accounts from fake ones, insisting that he will not pay for new Twitter blue badge registrations.
"Back in the day, Twitter was begging musicians to stay because they had no traffic. They came up with a verification process to protect accounts from being taken over, now @elonmusk is removing that and forcing us to pay - Honestly, I'm not paying for something we helped build," he tweeted.
From the singer's official Twitter account read April 1, 2023.
However, in a new tweet posted on Tuesday, Akon denied making the remarks, claiming that his account had been hacked.
He wrote,
"My account was just hacked. This tweet did not come from me. Whoever hacked my account, please respectfully keep your personal comments away from my profile."
Note that in November 2022, Twitter announced plans to charge $19.99 for new Twitter Blue subscriptions.
The blue subscription is one of the most controversial projects of the company since Musk took $44 billion of Twitter on April 14, 2022.
