eputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said thugs and looters will be dealt with 'ruthlessly' on Thursday and any other day during the planned Azimio demonstrations.

Gachagua assured Kenyans of adequate and elaborate security saying they have nothing to fear.

Urging them to go to work as usual, the DP said the government is ready to protect businesses and property belonging to all Kenyans despite their status in society.

“I am appealing to all Kenyans and business owners to open their businesses and continue working hard as usual."

"The government has a constitutional mandate to protect the life and property of all Kenyans equally," said the DP.

The opposition wing led by Raila Odinga is set to hold its demonstrations Thursday.

Gachagua told the business owners in Nairobi and other parts of the country to open their businesses emphasizing that the government will fully protect them.

Gachagua made the remarks Wednesday at Kangocho Secondary School in Mathira.

He reiterated that they will not be intimidated and blackmailed into talks with the opposition.

The DP argued that the cost of living was not the real issue behind the opposition's protests but a strategy to get to power.

“He has intimidated previous governments through blackmail to get into power.

"All previous governments succumbed to his pressure but this time round, the government will not tolerate his unbecoming behaviour,” Gachagua said.

President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza Administration, he said, are focused on delivering on The Plan and will not be distracted by self-seekers.

At the same time, the DP appealed to leaders from Mt Kenya to remain steadfast, firm and focused on the development and protection of the economic rights of the people.

"They should not be intimidated by those who did everything to frustrate them and unsuccessfully attempted to lock them out of leadership and development," he said.

The Deputy President also used the opportunity to urge the media to be fair and objective.
