The socialite and entrepreneur Alhuda Njoroge otherwise known as Huddah Monroe shared how creatives are going to struggle in the current social media wave
She explains that since most Kenyans have gotten into the creative space there is a shortage of fresh content
“The new social media wave is going to be brutal because there is nothing new anymore,” She said
The socialite stated that creatives did not suddenly stop making content but rather got tired for not getting enough recognition for their work.
“Creatives are not tired or silent but it is mentally exhausting to come up with things that people downplay only for others to make money later on the same,” she mentioned.
Huddah went ahead to give an example of the TikTok application that does not do much for Kenyan creatives.
She shared that the app is not that useful if you are not in certain TikTok communities.
“Like TikTok is pure nonsense unless you are on Chinese TikTok or educative TikTok.”
According to statistics the usage of TikTok immensely increased during the Covid period.
Given that there is a lot of different content, the entrepreneur seems to think that if one is not using the app for educational purposes then it is a waste.
“You are consuming bull***t and becoming useless everyday,” called out Huddah.
Currently the US government has been looking to outlaw the application. This is due to national security and privacy concerns. This could rob many TikTok content creators of their careers.
The app has been able to take some Kenyans to limits that were not known to be reachable.
Take for instance the Kenyan actress, Azziad Nasenya whose career took off when she first did a challenge on the app to the hit song “Utawezana” by Femi One and it went viral for how charming she was.
Denmark, Canada, UK, New Zealand, Belgium are just a few of the countries that have banned TikTok on government devices.
