Two armed thugs killed as police recover Sh1.3 million, two guns

The robbery happened after the thugs disarmed a police officer who was manning the SACCO and taking possession of his G3 rifle.

Police in Kigumo, Murang’a County have gunned down two armed thugs – recovering Sh1.3 million and two assault rifles.

In a statement via the official DCI Twitter handle, detectives informed that the cash was recovered following a  fierce shootout between police officers and the thugs.

The information given by DCI detectives details that the thugs had staged a robbery at Unaitas SACCO Mununga branch, within Kigumo town, where they made away with an unknown amount of money.

The robbery happened after the thugs disarmed a police officer who was manning the SACCO and taking possession of his G3 rifle.

The gang of 6 was on the police radar after wrestling an AK-47 rifle loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition from a police officer on patrol on February 25.

The incident happened within the Muthithi area. They used the gun in yesterday’s robbery incident.

The two were gunned down following a joint operation between officers drawn from Murang’a and Kiambu counties backed up by an elite team from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau.

The thugs were hiding in the Kinyona forest. A heavy exchange of fire was witnessed before the two were killed on the spot.

The two police rifles were recovered following the onslaught and a bag containing Sh1.13 Million shillings stolen from UNAITAS Sacco was recovered.

The bodies of the two have been taken to a mortuary in Murang’a awaiting identification as a manhunt for the rest of the suspects ensues.
