Tanzanian DJ breaks record after spinning on top of Mt Kilimanjaro

Mt Kilimanjaro ranks at number four in terms of elevation, after Mount Everest, Aconcagua, and Denali.

• Mt Kilimanjaro is 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) above sea level and 4,900 metres (16,100 ft) above its plateau base. 

• It is advisable to go up Mt Kilimanjaro at night.

DJ Joozey spins at the peak of Mt Kilimanjaro.

DJ Joozey, given name Joseph Simon, broke his own record after he played a 15-minute set at the peak of Mt Kilimanjaro.

Through his, Twitter Joozey shared his excitement at breaking the world record.

"I DID IT!! I played on Mt Kilimanjaro the highest free-standing mountain in the world 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) above sea level and 4,900 metres (16,100 ft) above its plateau base. Breaking the World Record I am the first man to ever play a 15min DJ set. GOD IS GOOD!"

It is advisable to go up Mt Kilimanjaro at night.

The reason behind that is the higher the altitude, the harder it is to sleep at night.

The reduced oxygen can make breathing laboured.

It takes five to nine days to reach the Mount Kilimanjaro Summit and then descend to the finishing point.

Approximately ten people who attempt to climb Kilimanjaro die every year due to AMS, hypothermia, dehydration, or a mixture of these factors.

Below are some of the risks one is likely to encounter when hiking Mt Kilimanjaro

  • Hypothermia (loss of heat due to cold)
  • Slipping and falling off rocks.
  • Getting hit by avalanches.
  • Falling off cliffs.
  • Heart attacks.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Cold and respiratory infections.
  • Twisting your ankles.
