In recent years we have seen performing artists being nominated, appointed, or elected to political seats.

While some were lucky to win in the first round some had to try their luck twice.

Some of these include;

Babu Tale

The entertainer is MP for Morogoro South constituency since November 2020.

He is the co-founder of the WCB Wasafi music label. Before then he was a music manager.

Mwana FA

Tanzanian rapper Mwana FA was recently appointed as Deputy Minister for Culture, Arts, and Sports.

As per Citizen Tanzania, State House Permanent Secretary, Dr. Moses Kusiluka appointed Mwana FA to the role as a replacement for Pauline Gekul, who’s been appointed deputy minister for Constitutional and Legal Affairs.

The rapper, whose real name is Hamis Mohammed Mwinjuma, doubles up as a member of Parliament for Muheza constituency.

DNG

Davidson Ngibuini alias DNG carried the day by clinching the Woodley Kenyatta Golf Course Ward MCA seat.

Before then he was a performing artist.

He was also a radio host and an MCee.

Professor Jay

Joseph Haule popularly known by his stage name Professor Jay is a Tanzanian hip hop recording artist is a former member of the Tanzanian parliament for Mikumi constituency.

He started rapping in 1994 as a member of the group Hard Blasters, best known for their hit ‘Chemsha Bongo.’

In 2015, he was declared the new Mikumi constituency legislator after garnering 32,259 votes in the general elections.

He lost the seat during his second attempt.

Charles ‘Jaguar’ Kanyi.

Better known by his stage name Jaguar, the artist caught many by surprise after being elected as The Starehe Member of Parliament.

In 2017, he successfully vied for the Starehe Member of Parliament seat garnering 52, 132 votes in the hotly contested seat.

He officially became the first musician to enter parliament in Kenya.

Kevin Bahati

Bahati was a contestant in the August 2022 general elections.

He was vying for the MP seat for Mathare North,sadly for him he lost.

Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy is the current Ukrainian President.

He is a former comedian and actor.
