Nyashinski and Bensoul love songs were the most listened to during Valentines Day

Music has always been used to express someone’s feelings and as Kenyans celebrated Saint Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, it was no different.

New data from music streaming platform Spotify shows how Kenyans expressed themselves on Tuesday by adding love songs to their playlists in celebration of the day of love.

Kenyans turned to songs from the 2010s to cure their love fever, as the majority of the songs in the list were released then.

British pop star Ed Sheeran has two songs in the list; ‘Perfect’ and ‘Thinking out Loud’, which was the wedding song for a long time after its 2014 release.

Another modern love song of our time, US R&B singer John Legend’s ‘All of Me’, was also heavily enjoyed by listeners.

Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’, which is the soundtrack to the movie The Bodyguard, is still popular with the lovers thirty one years later, making it the oldest song that Kenyans were adding to their playlists.

Some homegrown talent was also in the mix, with Nyashinski’s ballad ‘Malaika’ still tugging at people’s heartstrings, six years later.
